SHE’S the little girl who loves drawing Pictures for the Piggy – and so far, six-year-old Jessica Hallwell has raised more than £1,100 for Ark Day and Ark Cancer Centre Charity.
Jessica, from Pamber Heath, decided to use her artistic talents to help support Ark Day.
The artistic Silchester Primary School pupil had set herself a £100 target to raise by drawing customised pictures for people in exchange for a donation which would go towards the Ark Cancer Centre Charity’s £5million campaign.
However, since putting pen to paper on May 31, Jessica has raised 10 times the amount, and has received orders for pictures from as far away as Australia.
Today, she popped in to meet the Ark Cancer Centre Charity team and to deliver her latest drawing, which has taken pride of place in the office.
Jessica’s mother Vikki Hallewell said: “When the money started coming in, I couldn’t believe it – it just kept going up and up.
“Everyone has been so supportive of Jess’ drawings and she has had people ask for really sentimental drawings or just something small to help support the charity.”
Jessica’s pictures have become so popular that the Ark Day organisers have asked her to walk out as a mascot during the Ark Day charity match between Basingstoke Rugby Club and Basingstoke Town FC on June 21.
So far, Jessica has drawn more than 50 pictures, and she will be taking orders up until Ark Day on June 21.
Vikki added: “I am so proud of her – we never thought things would blow up like this.
“People have been sharing what Jess has been doing and she is really enjoying drawing all the pictures for people and helping support the charity.”
Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications at Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: “Well done to Jessica for this brilliant fundraising idea. She has been working really hard to keep up with all the drawing orders, and we are delighted to have now got one for the Ark office.
“Jessica is having a lot of fun doing the drawings, and is delighted to have raised a lovely amount for Ark Cancer Centre Charity – and that is what Ark Day is all about.”
