If you are a keen cyclist and fancy riding out with a leading cycling team, then have we got the event for you for Ark Day.
Thanks to the generosity of two local businessmen, we have the rare chance for 40 cyclists to go on a training ride with members of the Morvelo Basso cycling team, a top-tier amateur road racing team that has developed riders who have moved on into professional ranks.
On June 21st, we have two group rides of 25 miles available, with limited spaces of 20 per group.
- Group one will be at an average of 16 mph for experienced cyclists only.
- Group two is for less experienced cyclists with an average slightly slower pace of 13 mph (not for beginners).
This special opportunity to ride with the Morvelo Basso riders has been generously donated by Ark Cancer Centre Charity supporters Adam Chandler and Rob Leggett, who put in a winning bid at the Arkriders Une Grande Nuit charity gala dinner last September and have recycled the prize to generate more money for the charity.
Riders will need to sign up for the limited number of places online with a donation price of £20.95.
Adam Chandler (from local building firm Chandler HP) and Rob Leggett (owner of Cyber Distribution) said,
“We’re both very proud to be members of the Arkrider group, and are delighted to offer this opportunity for local cyclists to join us on the Morvelo Basso training rides on Ark Day.
“It’ll be a great experience and we hope that the riders will be generous with their donations to the Ark Day fundraising effort.”
The rides will set off from Basingstoke Rugby Club at 2pm with registration opening from 1pm.
The Morvelo Basso team will provide vehicle support, which will include spare wheels, pumps, and other bike-related spares. However, every rider will need to carry their own spares such as inner tubes, hand pumps, and tyre levers as they would expect to on a normal training ride. Cycling helmets must also be worn by all riders.
